ROSTER: Teams will consist of at least 6 players, with no limit on extra players. All players must be included on the roster, including subs. Anyone playing that is not on your roster must be added prior to your match and fill out a waiver. A sign-in sheet for new players will be at the hut. No new players may be added to any rosters once the end of the season playoffs have begun.
COED 6’s: There must be at least 6 players per team with no limit to roster size. Coed 6 teams must have an equal number of men and women, (3 men and 3 women, or 2 men and 2 women). It is ok to play with a minimum of 4 players, and maximum of 6.
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY: The minimum age for men and women is 16 years of age unless prior approval from the directors has been obtained. Players may play on more than one team per night.
PAYMENT: Payment is due in full by the first night of play. Any team not paid in full by the second week will be dropped from the league.
SUBSTITUTIONS: Substitution can only be made by the team serving at the time of rotation in the center back position. If there is an injury a substitution can be made at any time.
MATCHES: Matches will consist of 3 games. The first 2 games will go to 15 points, with a 19-point cap. The 3rd game will go to 11 points, with a 15-point cap. With the exception of point caps, a game must be won by 2 points.
SERVICE: Coin toss will determine the first serve. You may serve anywhere behind the back boundary line. Server must wait for the whistle. Failure to do so will result in loss of serve. Net serve or foot fault will result in loss of serve. For game 2 of match play, the teams shall switch sides and alternate service. Game 3 will be decided by coin toss.
RECEIVING A SERVE: Players may use an overhead or forearm pass on serve receive. Overhead passes must be clean and not "slapped or pushed".
HIT SEQUENCE: (Coed) when the ball is played more than once by a team, a female player must make one of the contacts. Contact during a block shall not constitute a play on the ball.
CENTERLINE: Players may cross under the net without violation, unless contact is made with an opposing player or if the player interferes with play.
OUT OF BOUNDS: Any ball that lands outside of the boundary lines is considered out of bounds. Any ball that touches the boundary line is considered in bounds. A ball may be played from anywhere out of bounds with the exception of the other court provided that it stays within the antennas when it crosses the net.
SPIKING: Players cannot come from the back row to the front row in order to spike. Players can spike from the back row behind the imaginary 10-ft Line; which is left up to the discretion of the referee.
BLOCKING: There will be no blocking of a serve.
NET: No player can touch the net with any part of his or her body while the ball is in play.
ILLEGAL HIT: Any ball that momentarily rests in players' hand or hands is illegal. Any part of the body may hit the ball as long as the ball does not rest momentarily. Double hits are allowed on hard driven spikes or hard driven serves - discretion of referee.
REFEREE: All teams shall abide by the referees' judgments. The referees' call is final!
GRACE PERIOD: There will be a 10-minute grace period for the 6:15 game only. After that, all games will start at the scheduled times. If the 10 minute grace period is used for the first match, the third game of that match will be rally scoring. If a team is not present at their scheduled start time, they will be subject to forfeiture of the entire match based on the discretion of the volleyball staff.
SPORTSMANSHIP: All players must maintain proper conduct. Sheridan Lanes reserves the right to suspend, eject or dismiss players/teams due to unsportsmanlike conduct.
RAIN: Games will be played in the rain. If the weather is threatening (lightening, tornadoes, dangerous storms etc.) games will be rescheduled either as a double header during the season or made up at the end. Failure to show up at you scheduled make-up will result in a forfeit. Cancelled games due to bad weather will be determined between 5:00pm and 6:00pm the day of the game.
